Buying electrical steel for Turkey: TS EN grades, import checks, CIF quotes to Mersin and Istanbul
Turkish buyers use the EN grades adopted as TS EN 10107 and TS EN 10106. Here are the Baosteel equivalents, the import points to check with your broker, and how CIF shipments are quoted.
TS EN grades and their Baosteel match
Turkey adopts the European standards, so a Turkish specification names the same grades: M270-35A for non-oriented steel, or a conventional (S) or high-permeability (P) grain-oriented grade with its loss at 1.7 T.

Import points to check
- Turkey is in a customs union with the EU but runs its own trade remedies and additional customs duties by origin. Ask your customs broker for the duty on electrical steel of Chinese origin on your import date.
- Steel imports are monitored: check with your broker whether a surveillance or pre-registration filing applies to your tariff code.
- Ask us for a certificate of origin in the form your broker needs.
Shipping to Mersin, Gemlik and Istanbul
- Mersin serves southern and central Anatolia; Gemlik (Bursa) and Ambarlı (Istanbul) serve the Marmara industrial region; İzmir/Aliağa suits the Aegean.
- Coils in 20-foot containers on fixed saddles; laminations and cores on pallets or in crates with ISPM 15 wood.
How a CIF quotation works
Under CIF (Incoterms 2020) we book the ocean freight and buy cargo insurance to your named port of destination. Risk passes to you when the goods are loaded on board at the Chinese port; unloading, import clearance, duties and inland delivery are on your side. CIF only requires minimum insurance (Institute Cargo Clauses C) for 110% of the contract value, so ask for Clauses A if you want all-risks cover.
What to send for a CIF quotation: grade (or the standard and loss class you need), thickness and width, coil ID/OD or lamination drawing, quantity per shipment, destination port, required documents, and whether you want Clauses A insurance.
Documents with every shipment
- Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading
- Baosteel mill certificate and our inspection report, traceable by coil number
- Insurance certificate (CIF)
- Certificate of origin
