Grade equivalents: comparing Baosteel with Nippon Steel, JFE, POSCO and European standards
Drawings and specifications often name a grade from another mill or standard. This table and checklist help you find the matching Baosteel grade.
An engineer in Germany may specify M270-35A, a Japanese drawing may say 23ZH090, and a Korean supplier may quote 23PH090. All of these can be matched to Baosteel grades, but the match is based on the test standard and the guaranteed values, not on the name alone.
Grain-oriented: high-permeability and domain-refined
| Baosteel | Nippon Steel | JFE | POSCO |
|---|---|---|---|
| B23P090 | 23ZH090 | 23JGH090 | 23PH090 |
| B23R080 | 23ZDKH80 | 23JGSD80 | 23PHD080 |
Equivalents as listed in the Baosteel product manual. B23P090 is a 0.23 mm high-permeability grade with guaranteed P1.7/50 ≤ 0.90 W/kg; B23R080 is a 0.23 mm domain-refined grade with P1.7/50 ≤ 0.80 W/kg.

Non-oriented: compare by loss class
| Baosteel | China GB/T | Europe EN | Japan JIS |
|---|---|---|---|
| B35A270 | 35W270 | M270-35A | 35A270 |
For non-oriented steel the guaranteed loss at 1.5 T, 50 Hz and the thickness define the class. If the loss class and thickness match, grades from different systems are usually interchangeable for design purposes.
Checklist before you accept an equivalent
- Same nominal thickness.
- Guaranteed loss at the same induction and frequency (P1.7/50 for GO, P1.5/50 for NGO).
- Minimum induction (B8 for GO, B50 for NGO) at least as high as specified.
- Coating type suitable for your process, e.g. stress-relief annealing.
- Domain-refined GO grades: confirm whether heat-proof material is required.

If your specification names a grade that is not in this table, send it to us with the test standard. We will compare it with the current Baosteel data and tell you which grade we propose—and why.
