The three events below are the main ones for buyers of electrical steel, transformer cores and motor laminations in 2026. What each show is for
- CWIEME Berlin: the largest international show for coil winding, transformer and electric motor manufacturing, with a strong materials section.
- CWIEME Shanghai: the same focus for the Chinese and Asian supply chain.
- EP Shanghai: power equipment, with transformers and grid equipment at its centre.
Why 2026 is a busy year for core materials
Demand for transformers has risen with grid upgrades, renewable connections and new data centres, and higher efficiency classes push designers towards thinner, lower-loss grain-oriented grades. On the motor side, electric vehicles and high-efficiency industrial motors call for thin non-oriented grades. Mills, including Baosteel, have added capacity and new grades in recent years, so a show is a good moment to check which grades are actually available in the thickness and width you need.
For buyers outside China, the Shanghai shows also offer a chance to meet several Chinese processors in one trip and to compare their answers on the same questions about mill source, processing and documents.
Planning your meetings
- Book meetings two to three weeks before the show; the first morning and the last afternoon are usually the easiest slots.
- Send your specification in advance so that the supplier comes prepared with grades and indicative availability.
- Allow time between meetings: the halls are large, and CWIEME Berlin and the Shanghai venues each take time to cross.
