How to read electrical steel grade names
How to read Baosteel grade names and compare technical reference grades across GB/T, EN and JIS systems.
The LG/L series on this page are reference grades from the original mill manuals, not Baosteel grades. Baosteel supply grades, properties and specifications are subject to official Baosteel documentation, the quotation and the mill test certificate for the relevant batch.
Most electrical steel names follow the same logic: thickness in hundredths of a millimetre, a letter for the steel family, and the maximum core loss multiplied by 100. Once you know the pattern you can compare offers from different mills quickly.
Grain-oriented example: B23R080
- B — Baosteel
- 23 — nominal thickness 0.23 mm
- R — domain-refined high-induction grain-oriented electrical steel
- 080 — max core loss P1.7/50 = 0.80 W/kg
Non-oriented example: B35A270
For Baosteel B35A270: B denotes Baosteel, 35 denotes 0.35 mm, A denotes the non-oriented series, and 270 denotes maximum P1.5/50 of 2.70 W/kg. Verify further properties in the official mill datasheet.

| L50W470 | 50W470 | B50A470 | M470-50A | 50A470 |
Equivalents are matched by thickness and guaranteed loss class. Magnetic induction, coating and mechanical properties can still differ, so confirm against the mill datasheet before substituting one grade for another.
